New Church Bells for Olney

The church bells in Olney are silent no more. After a successful appeal to restore them, they're ringing out at St.Peter and St.Paul church in Olney.

Some of the bells are the same as those that would have been heard by John Newton and William Cowper - the 18th Century composers of the Olney hymns. One bell came from the reign of Elizabeth I.

All eight were taken down from the spire for refurbishment and to allow a new bell frame to be fitted in the bell chamber. They've been re-installed and on Saturday 11th July there was a service of re-dedication led by Bishop Alan of Buckingham.

The church is now recruiting people who want to become bell ringers, to join the existing team.
