    Description

    Afterglow sources distinctive Vintage, from tweeds to typewriters, chairs to china and linen to Ladybird books. With an emphasis on quality and quirkiness, every piece is unique, saved from landfill, with a story to tell. Afterglow offers:

    • Lovely restored and upcycled furniture and gifts, as well as art and craft from local designers;
    • Vintage finds and collectables;
    • Sarah Jayne Chalk Paint;
    • Free delivery can be arranged on larger items;
    • Personalisation and bespoke orders welcome;
    • Cuddles with two Springer Spaniels often available!

    Upcycling creates something beautiful from unloved or damaged items, be it furniture given a new lease of life by decorative painting, elegant bangles and rings twisted out of vintage forks and spoons, guitars customised using decoupage or pre-decimal coins hand-cut into beautiful ornate pendants. The handcrafted collection includes sterling silver jewellery, wet-felted pictures, needlefelt keepsakes, freehand machine embroidery, soy candles, accessories crafted from natural yarns and fabrics, stained glass, photography and cards.

    Afterglow is owned and run by Diana Harris (read more about her in our vintage trail feature) is a mum of four daughters and a former journalist and TV press officer. Afterglow opened in 2014 after she  establishing a small vintage and handmade business. The shop name means ‘the glow in the sky after sunset’ or ‘a trace of past brilliance’ and this captures Afterglow’s ethos of breathing new life into forgotten treasures and celebrating traditional crafts. Diana says "I am proud to represent over 30 small businesses under one roof, offering an eclectic range of locally-sourced gifts and homewares to our customers whilst at the same time giving designers and vintage traders a shop window on Olney’s busy High Street."

    To find the shop: from the Market Place parking, cross the road and go left (south) and the colourful shop signs are handpainted by a traditional local signwriter.

      © Visit Olney is a social enterprise, hello@visitolney.com The Visit Olney website aims to provide accurate, up-to-date tourist information and visitor guides about the town of Olney, in Buckinghamshire, which lies between Northampton, Milton Keynes and Bedford. Olney is known for the pancake race and its literary associations with writers Cowper and Newton, and a connection to the abolitionist movement. This is a thriving Georgian market town with a renowned museum. The independent High Street depends on both visitors and local people visiting the town and we aim to show what there is to explore, enjoy and experience here to fulfill our mission: to help local businesses and community groups thrive. Visit Olney is paid for by the generous support of partners from the town, whose businesses are listed on our Visit Olney homepage.
