    Description

Stoke Bruerne is a picturesque village, dominated by the Grand Union Canal which runs through it. You can walk or cycle alongside the Grand Union Canal, perhaps before getting an ice cream from the cafe.  Or just come and sit by the canal and watch the boats tackle the lock and take in a drink or meal at one of the cafes or pubs.

    • The National Waterways museum is there too. (The public pay and display car park is located next to it, off Chapel Lane.) and housed in a restored cornmill in Stoke Bruerne, the museum collection documents 200 years of inland waterways.
    • This form of transport was key to the industrial revolution in Britain - great history lesson for young people. .
    • The "living canal" outside has a flight of locks, boats and the Blisworth Tunnel.
    • Pay and display car parks can fill up, so do go early or park further out of the village.

© Visit Olney is a social enterprise. The Visit Olney website aims to provide accurate, up-to-date tourist information and visitor guides about the town of Olney, in Buckinghamshire, which lies between Northampton, Milton Keynes and Bedford. Olney is known for the pancake race and its literary associations with writers Cowper and Newton, and a connection to the abolitionist movement. This is a thriving Georgian market town with a renowned museum. The independent High Street depends on both visitors and local people visiting the town and we aim to show what there is to explore, enjoy and experience here to fulfill our mission: to help local businesses and community groups thrive. Visit Olney is paid for by the generous support of partners from the town, whose businesses are listed on our Visit Olney homepage.
