Bernadette Foster really, really loves shoes, bags and ‘bling.’ For three decades, usually six days a week, she has devoted herself to accessories, from the same shop on Olney High Street.

She puts her survival in a tough market to caring about her customers: not just having fabulous shoes, but comfortable ones. Shoes that won’t become forms of torture at garden party, or fall apart after one outing.

She personally takes charge of the ordering process when a customer needs shoes dyed to match an outfit so that it is perfect. For young people going to the prom, she aims to get shoes that make them feel dressed to the nines. Bernadette loves making a fuss of brides, but also the mothers of both bride and groom.

The advantage for customers is an encyclopedic knowledge of brands which means she ensures the best possible fitting. That, and the fact she’s open seven days a week. Her fellow shopkeepers think so much of her that they bring customers over to her. Shoes have graced royal garden parties and the wedding of William and Catherine, as well as countless local events.

Bernadette had worked for the previous owners until eight years ago when she bought the place from them. It is her little piece of paradise on earth and she wouldn’t change a thing….
